چکیده مقاله:

By the use of ultrasound, chemical analysis and histologic techniques, the knowledge of embryo and fetal growth and developments is increasing steadily.  It has been demonstrated that the fetus can respond to sound, bright light and touch. Accordingly, works on fetal responses to external stimuli during the third trimester may ultimately lead to improvements in the techniques of antepartum fetal monitoring. Studies of fetal movements have suggested that its variations may be useful index of fetal health. Problems like the rights of not only the fetus, but also the embryo, and the possibility on "intrauterine learning" are among the highlights of the future researches in this fast-growing field of Ob. & Gyn. and Pediatrics.

Maternal—Fetal rejection reactions are unconstrained in preeclamptic women

The risk factors for preeclampsia, extremes of maternal age, changing paternity, concomitant maternal autoimmunity, and/or birth intervals greater than 5 years, suggest an underlying immunopathology. We used peripheral blood and lymphocytes from the UteroPlacental Interface (UPI) of 3rd trimester healthy pregnant women in multicolor flow cytometry-and in vitro suppression assays. The major end-...

Aberrant fetal macrophage/microglial reactions to cytomegalovirus infection

OBJECTIVE Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is the leading viral cause of neurodevelopmental disorders in humans, with the most severe and permanent sequelae being those affecting the cerebrum. As the fetal immune reactions to congenital CMV infection in the brain and their effects on cerebral development remain elusive, our aim was to investigate primitive innate immunity to CMV infec...

Reactions of antisera prepared against HeLa cells and normal fetal liver cells with adult human tissues.

HeLa cells grown in tissue culture have certain components in common with normal human tis sues. For example, Miller and Hsu (6) have shown that antiserum prepared against HeLa cells in rabbits is cytotoxic for fibroblasts and epithelial cells derived from adult and newborn skin and also from tonsils, as well as for HeLa. Moreover, the anti-HeLa serum gave a precipitate with an extract of human...

Dissection of the radical reactions linked to fetal hemoglobin reveals enhanced pseudoperoxidase activity

In the presence of excess hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), ferrous (Fe(+2)) human hemoglobin (Hb) (α2β2) undergoes a rapid conversion to a higher oxidation ferryl state (Fe(+4)) which rapidly autoreduces back to the ferric form (Fe(+3)) as H2O2 is consumed in the reaction. In the presence of additional H2O2 the ferric state can form both ferryl Hb and an associated protein radical in a pseudoperoxidat...
